PROJECT: DeVotchKa “Done With Those Days” music video.

CHALLENGE: Build a 1930’s dust bowl era environment for the video.

SOLUTION: After scouting, we decided on shooting car scenes as well as various vignettes on eastern plains of Colorado and parts of Wyoming. The backdrops would provide us landscape that we all recognize from dust bowl photographs from 1930s. The band member sequences would get captured at Manmade Media Studio on green screen, and all environments would be created in 3D.

The entire project was a heavy compositing task as we got virtually no clouds the days we shot, and all had to be added in post. Also, all dust bowls and wind/dust were created as simulations in NukeX, and composited over the footage. All in all, every shot had some level of CG.

For those that enjoy a little hunt, try finding:
1. A license plate message
2. Record with the album artwork
3. Band photos from the album photo-shoot
4. So many more fun little hidden elements
